Bell Boeing MV-22B Osprey Diecast Model
USMC HMX-1 Nighthawks, Marine One, 2016

1:72 Scale   Length   Width
Bell Boeing MV-22B Osprey   9.5"   14.25"

Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1), is a United States Marine Corps helicopter squadron responsible for the transportation of the President of the United States, Vice President, Cabinet members and other VIPs. A Marine helicopter which has the President aboard uses the call sign "Marine One". In addition to its VIP transport role, it is also tasked with operational test and evaluation of new flight systems for Marine Corps helicopters. Nicknamed "Nighthawks", they are headquartered at Marine Corps Air Facility Quantico, Virginia, and maintain detachments at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C. and Joint Base Andrews Naval Air Facility in Maryland. On August 11, 2013 two MV-22 Ospreys made their presidential debut ferrying Secret Service agents, White House staff, and members of the media from CGAS Cape Cod to Martha's Vineyard during the President's vacation. As of 2015, HMX-1 has 12 Sikorsky VH-3D of 1960s" vintage, 8 Sikorsky VH-60N from the 80s/90s era and 12 Bell-Boeing MV-22 Ospreys.

Please note: Unlike prior releases in this series, this particular model does not include a set of "folded" rotor blades for displaying the model in the stowed configuration. The wing and engine nacelles do still rotate, but sadly the packaging has empty slots where the folded blades would usually be found and it appears the manufacturer simply chose not to produce them for this model.

Bell Boeing MV-22B Osprey

Designed to meet a US military need for a VTOL aircraft that could carry combat troops, the V-22 Osprey was first flown on March 19, 1989. This multi-mission aircraft has an instantly recognizable appearance, and has been steeped in controversy almost since its inception. With its tiltrotor design, the Osprey can perform the same tasks as a conventional helicopter, but it has the speed and range of a turboprop aircraft. Several catastrophic crashes early in its service led the media to decry it as overpriced and unsafe, but the military disagreed and the aircraft has remained in service, successfully completing combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
