Viscount 755D, G-AOCC was one of three originally ordered by Airwork Ltd (later British United Airways) in December 1955. As CU-T605 the aircraft first flew for Cubana de Aviacion in June 1956 and served on the route between Havana and Nassau in the Bahamas until October 1959. It was then bought by Cunard Eagle Airways (Bermuda) Ltd and in September 1962 was transferred to the Airline's UK division and flew as G-AOCC for the first time. It was finally withdrawn from use in April 1969 and broken up for spares.
Designed as a medium-range pressurized turboprop aircraft, the Vickers Viscount first flew on July 16, 1948. As the world's first turboprop airliner, the Viscount filled a need for passenger transport on less popular routes. The early 630 design could carry 32 passengers, but it was ultimately rejected because of high per-passenger costs that made it impractical for commercial purposes. The redesigned 700 could carry up to 48 passengers, and the later Type 800 "Super Viscount" added an extra 23 passengers for a total of 71. Corgi's 1:144 scale Vickers Vicount is constructed almost entirely of solid diecast metal with only the smallest amount of plastic, a quality common to most of Corgi's 1:144 series aircraft. The top portion of the model's fuselage is cast as one solid piece, and pad-printed windows and doors provide a seamless touch that does not interrupt the lines of the aircraft. The tail and wing with integrated engine nacelles and thinly stamped propellers are solid diecast metal. The series includes the early smaller 700 variant with circular boarding doors and the stretched 800 variant with square boarding doors. Wheels-down configuration of the model is easy with landing gear that installs quickly, and air stairs are included for enhanced ground display (on most releases; see photos).
