CG-AA32624 Corgi Lancaster B.Mk III Diecast Model, RAF No.103 Sqn, ED888 "Mike Squared"

The aircrew of Bomber Command made a significant contribution to the war effort in WWII and were to pay a heavy price for their devotion to duty. Arguably the aircraft that best illustrates their contribution and the men who sadly paid the ultimate price is Avro Lancaster ED888 PM-M2 ‘Mike Squared'. This magnificent aircraft completed an astonishing 140 bombing missions – the most flown by any Lancaster in WWII. Known as ‘The Mother of Them All', this Lancaster managed to survive the war, shooting down two Luftwaffe fighters in the process. Avro Lancaster ED888 was the most prolific of the ‘Ton-up' Lancasters and is a fitting way to mark the 75th anniversary of the first flight of Avro's most famous bomber.

CG-AA39210 Corgi Spitfire Mk I Diecast Model, RAF No.602 Sqn, L1004, Alexander Johnstone

The now legendary Supermarine Spitfire needs no introduction. It is quite simply one of the most iconic aircraft in the world. L1004 was flown by Squadron Leader Alexander ‘Sandy' Johnstone, CO of No. 602 Squadron. During the early parts of the War, the Squadron performed defensive duties in Scotland, however, in August 1940 the Squadron moved south to join the Battle of Britain in the skies over Southern England. They went on to have a truly remarkable record during the battle – scoring the second highest toll of enemy aircraft! Their performance is aptly summed up in a message from HQ11 Group. "Group Commander sends warmest congratulations to 602 Squadron on their magnificent combat at midday when they destroyed eight fighters and shot down two others without loss of pilots or aircraft creating a record for months past."

CG-AA27601 Corgi Hurricane Mk I Diecast Model, RAF No.151 Sqn, V7434, Irving Smith

No.151 Squadron received its first Hurricanes in December 1938. After serving defensive patrols in the opening chapters of World War Two the Squadron went on to cover the evacuation fleet at Dunkirk and flew missions over Northern France during May and June 1940. Pilot Officer Irving ‘Black' Smith from New Zealand joined the Squadron in July 1940 and quickly became involved in the Battle of Britain during which he scored six kills. Smith went on to play a leading role in Operation Jericho, the RAF's historic raid on the German prison at Amiens in February 1944, during which he piloted a de Havilland Mosquito IV. This model is a brand new Corgi tooling developed using CAD for a high degree of accuracy and detail.

Avro Lancaster B.Mk III

Designed to meet a specification for a new generation of "worldwide use" medium bombers, the Avro Lancaster was first flown on January 8, 1941. The design of the Lancaster evolved from an unsuccessful two-engine aircraft called the Manchester. The heavier Lancaster had four engines and an extensive bomb bay, with later versions capable of carrying 22,000 lb bombs. Used primarily as a night bomber, the Lancaster was a versatile aircraft that became most famous for its role in the 1943 "Dam Buster" raids on Germany's Ruhr Valley dams. Between 1942 and 1945, Lancasters flew 156,000 sorties, dropping 608,612 tons of bombs on enemy targets.

Supermarine Spitfire Mk I

Designed by R.J.Michell to meet a British Air Ministry specification, the Supermarine Spitfire first flown on March 5th, 1936. With its combination of beautiful fighter design, the excellent performance of its Rolls-Royce Merlin powerplant and firepower provided by twin cannons and four machine guns, the Spitfire became an unrivaled symbol of victory. The Spitfire had 40 major variants and was built in greater numbers than any other British aircraft of the time. It flew operationally on every front between 1939 and 1945 and was engaged in every one of the Royal Air Force's major actions.

Hawker Hurricane Mk I

Based on the Fury biplane and designed by Sydney Camm as a monoplane fighter, the Hurricane was first flown on November 6th, 1935. With its wide-set landing gear, easy handling, reliability, and stable gun platform, the Hurricane was suitable for a variety of different roles such as intruder, ground strafing and night fighter. Steel-tube construction meant cannon shells could pass right through the wood and fabric covering without exploding. The Hurricane underwent many modifications during its lifetime, including an upgraded Merlin engine and interchangeable multi-purpose wings, staging twelve 7.7mm guns and two 40mm anti-tank guns and carrying two 500lb bombs.
