The Iraqi T-72 is the latest Russian weapons technology in the Iraqi arsenal. Although fast, durable, and potent with its 125mm gun, the T-72 proved no match for the U.S. Apache Helicopters or M1A2 Battle Tanks.
Designed to complement the T-64, the high-production Soviet T-72 was first built in 1971 and first seen in public in 1977. This medium tank is a combat vehicle with cross-country maneuverability. Powered by a V-12 diesel engine that can run on various fuels, the T-72 can be fitted with two fuel drums for additional range. Its low, rounded turret mounts a 125mm smooth bore gun capable of penetrating the M1 Abrams' armor at up to 1,000 meters. It can sustain direct hits from the M1 at a 2,000 meter range. Forces of Valor's 1:72 scale T-72 Tanks is constructed using an intelligent mix of diecast metal and plastic, which gives this model the maximum amount of detail. The diecast metal hull features battle damaged fenders, spare tracks, detailed engine vents, two external fuel tanks and simulated wood log. Among the many moving parts are a 360 degree rotating turret with a simulated heavy canvas cover, an elevating metal cannon and rolling rubber tracks and wheels with suspension details. The front of the turret has 12 smoke grenade launchers, and the top has a 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine gun manned by a hand-painted crew figure.
