Frederick Streig claimed five aircraft destroyed and two damaged and was later promoted to Lt(jg). This F4U is depicted after the last of his tally was scored, 2.5 Zekes claimed over Rabaul on 27th January 1944. It is unusual in that it retains the red surround to the national insignia, a colour that only appeared with the addition of white bars on 28th June 1943 with the surround disappearing on the 31st July due to possible confusion with the Japanese Hinomaru. The Corgi "Legends" range presents affordable, ready-made diecast models of military and civilian aircraft. Corgi "Legends" diecast airplanes feature: - Diecast metal construction with some plastic components.
- Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details.
- Pad printed markings and placards that won't fade or peel like decals.
- Permanently extended landing gear with rotating wheels.
- Presention stand to display the aircraft "in flight".
- Detailed pilot and crew member figures.
- Authentic ordnance loads complete with placards.
Designed to meet the US Navy's request for a single-seat carrier based fighter, the F-4U was flown for the first time on May 29th, 1940. | |
