Boeing CH-47 Chinook HC.2 Diecast Model
RAF No.27 Sqn, Afghanistan, 2007

1:72 Scale   Length   Width
Boeing CH-47 Chinook HC.2   16.5"   10"

The CH-47D Chinook first flew in 1982, and includes upgraded engines, fibreglass rotor blades, a redesigned cockpit to reduce pilot workload, redundant and improved electrical systems, an advanced flight control system (FCS) and improved avionics. The RAF returned their original HC1’s to Boeing for remanufacture to the CH-47D standard; the first of which returned to the UK in 1993 designated HC.2. No.27 Sqn RAF, based at Odiham, Hampshire, is currently deployed to Afghanistan supporting Coalition forces troops against the Taliban and is frequently featured on TV news reports.

Boeing CH-47 Chinook HC.2

Designed to meet a US Army requirement for a versatile, twin-engine, tandem rotor heavy-lift battlefield helicopter, the CH-47 was first flown on September 21st, 1961. The Chinook’s roles include troop movement, artillery emplacement and battlefield resupply. With accommodations for three crewmen and up to 55 combat-ready troops, the boxcar-size Chinook is bigger than the Sea Knight. The wide loading ramp at the rear of the fuselage can be opened in flight for parachutes, and three cargo hooks can be used for lifting loads through a hatch in the middle of the floor, for lowering items to the ground or for carrying slung loads—enabling the Chinook to operate as a flying crane.

Corgi’s 1:72 scale Chinooks are some of the most sought after models in 1:72 scale. The most notable feature of this model is the rotor blades, which are geared to turn in opposite directions. Two sets of rotor blades are included, one with dropping blades for ground display and another with blades that are curved upwards for in-flight display. The model has steerable front wheels and a large nose canopy, which allows for easy viewing of the cockpit interior and crew figures. The rear cargo ramp is accurately articulated and easy to configure, and when fully opened reveals a large cargo bay. A variety of delicate antennas as well as air inlets on the rear nacelles are featured in each release.
