Corgi Aviation Archive Legends Series HC30009
DC-3 Diecast Model
US Army 101st Airborne Div, Normandy, France, D-Day June 6th 1944

1:144 Scale   Length   Width
Douglas DC-3   5.25"   8"

On June 6th, 1944, 45 Allied divisions with almost three million men with their heavy armor began landing on the Normandy beaches in France as the invasion of Europe took full effect. Air support was essential, and one of the largest deployments of Allied aircraft ever seen darkened the skies above the channel.

The first Allied troops to set foot in Normandy were the paratroopers who landed in the early hours of June 6. Their transport aircraft, C-47 "Skytrains" met intense flak fire as they entered French air space. This drove many of them off course, causing their "sticks" (groups of paratroopers) to miss their assigned landing zones.
