The Ahrens-Fox Fire Engine Company dates back to the 1850s, and built over 1500 pieces of fire apparatus until 1977. They were recognizable by the chrome sphere on the pump that was used to hold air and smooth the outgoing pressure from the pump. Today Ahrens-Fox is a subsidiary of HME Incorporated, which also manufactured Hendrickson Trucks.
