This engine was ordered by the Memphis Fire Department in 1953. It was built by the Peter Pirsch & Sons Company of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and delivered to Memphis in September of 1954. The manufacturer's serial number was 2157 and the Memphis FD Shop Number was F-15. It was assigned new to Engine Company 15, which was housed in a small one-story brick station at 1010 Faxon Avenue in north Memphis. At the time the engine was new, Memphis had 24 engine companies and nine ladders.

Peter Pirsch & Sons Sedan Cab Pumper

Peter Pirsch was the son of a wagon builder and the founder of Pirsch and Sons, Incorporated, a Wisconsin designer and builder fire engines. Originally manufacturing hand- and horsedrawn ladder trucks, Pirsch and Sons went on to build motorized pumpers, chemical and hose trucks, starting in 1926 with a 150 to 750gpm pumper on a Rambler chassis. Pirsch and Sons continued to manufacture fire trucks for more than 60 years, producing a range of vehicles from articulated ladder trucks to cab-forward and conventional cab models. The last Pirsch and Sons truck was manufactured in 1987, after reorganization forced the company to discontinue its production line.
