German Paratroopers, D-Day June 6th 1944, 6-Piece SetWhile it was the Russians who had first conceived the idea and developed the basic techniques for the use of parachute troops as a weapon, it was the Germans who perfected these techniques. German paratroops, or Fallschirmjagers, first saw action in Poland, 1939, followed by Norway, Holland, Belgium and Greece. The spectacular success of these early campaigns leads to the greatest German airborne offensive of the warm airborne assault on Crete in 1941. German paratroopers played important parts in the defensive actions in Sicily, Italy and the attempts to stem the allied advance in Normandy, France. These figures are made to go with the existing range of World War II Corgi vehicles.
