US Army Green Beret, VietnamFormed in 1950 with soldiers drawn from the ranks of the US Army’s airborne divisions, the first Special Forces group (Airborne) – dubbed the Green Berets – to see action in Vietnam arrived in-country in 1957. For the next 16 years, thousands of Green Berets would fight a covert war across all four Corps Tactical Zones into which South Vietnam had been divided up. These men fulfilled a wide variety of missions, including camp strike, mobile guerilla, mobile strike and special reconnaissance forces. Green Berets also provided extensive training for South Vietnamese regular and irregular forces who were actively engaged in the struggle against communism.
