The A-6 Intruder is a twin-engine, mid-wing attack aircraft built by Grumman Aerospace. In service between 1963 and 1997, the Intruder was designed as a replacement for the piston-engined A-1 Skyraider. Limited Edition of 1500 pieces worldwide.
Designed to meet a US Navy requirement for an all-weather carrier-based long-range low-level tactical attack/strike aircraft, the A-6 Intruder was first flown on April 19th, 1960. The Intruder carried more than 30 types of bombs, rockets, missiles or mines, and could detect, identify, track and destroy tactical targets, day or night. A-6 Intruders were the US Navy and Marine Corps’ principal medium from the mid-1960s through the 1990s, seeing action during the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Restore Hope in Somalia and Bosnia. Century Wings’ 1:144 scale A-6 Intruders are constructed almost entirely of diecast metal, a feature uncommon in this scale. Each model’s wings are wonderfully sculpted and include raised wing fences and hinge details. The canopy has forward tinting and is removable for easy viewing of the cockpit interior. The thin metal horizontal stabilizers rotate freely in unison, and there is a full complement of detailed weapons ordinances on the underside. Models in this series feature landing gear and doors fixed in the down position for easy display.
