The U.S. Navy’s oldest continuously active fighter squadron is VF-14 (since renamed VFA-14 in December 2001), established way back in 1919. Indeed, the “Tophatters” were the pioneers of carrier operations when they began training aboard the USA’s first ever aircraft carrier, the USS Langley, in 1926. Based at NAS Lemoore, this fighter attack squadron now flies the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. The multi-mission F/A-18E/F "Super Hornet" strike fighter is an upgrade of the combat-proven night strike F/A-18C/D. The Super Hornet will provide the battle group commander with a platform that has range, endurance, and ordnance carriage capabilities comparable to the A-6 which have been retired. The Dragon Models "Dragon Wings 1:72 Warbirds Series" presents highly-detailed, ready-made diecast models of military aircaft. Dragon Models "Dragon Wings 1:72 Warbirds Series" diecast airplanes feature: - Diecast metal construction with some plastic components.
- Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details.
- Pad printed markings and placards that won't fade or peel like decals.
- Opening canopies, revealing detailed cockpit interiors.
- Selected moveable control surfaces.
- Optional extended/retracted landing gear.
- Presentation stand to display the aircraft "in flight".
- Authentic detachable ordnance loads complete with placards.
- Accurately detailed underside with concealed screwheads.
Designed by Northrop as a smaller, naval derivative of the YF-17 Air Combat Fighter prototype, the F18 was first flown on November 18th, 1978. | |
