This title features a 1st of the series Me109G-6 flown by the infamous Wilhelm Lemke in August of 1943. The G-6 version of the Me109 had heavy armor, two 13mm MG131's, a 30mm MK108 Cannon and a 20mm MG151/20 under each wing. The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was a World War II fighter aircraft designed by Willy Messerschmitt in the early 1930s. It was the first true modern fighter of the era, including such features as an all-metal monocoque construction, a closed canopy, and retractable landing gear. The G-6 model, the most produced Bf 109 version, had very heavy armament. The G-6/U4 variant with Rüstsatz R6 was armed with two 13 mm MG 131 above the engine, a 30 mm MK 108 cannon shooting through the propeller hub and one 20 mm MG 151/20 in a 'pod' under each wing. The G-6 was very often fitted with assembly sets, used to carry bombs or a drop tank, for use as nightfighter, or to increase fire power by adding rockets or extra guns.
Designed by Willy Messerschmitt during Germany's military build-up in the 1930s, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 was first flown on May 28th, 1935. Messerschmitt engineers placed a big 12-cylinder engine in a small airframe, and made that airframe easy to produce and repair. Armed with two cannons and a pair of machine guns, the Bf 109 was the backbone of the Luftwaffe fighter force, shooting down more Allied planes than any other aircraft. The Germans maintained this advantage until the Battle of Britain, where more than 600 Bf-109s were downed by powerful adversaries, most notably RAF Spitfires and the P-51 Mustang.© Copyright 2003-2010 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Dragon’s Bf 109 series includes the early E model and the later aerodynamically improved G model with a “tropical” air filter for tropical/desert theatre releases. This model’s optional center mounted drop tank is easy to configure and installs quickly. The one-piece main gear subassembly is robust and easily slips and locks into place. The canopy is configurable and can be displayed in the open position, allowing for easy viewing of the cockpit interior and instrument panel details.
