Dragon Models 1:72 Warbirds 50303
Focke-Wulf Fw 190A Diecast Model
Luftwaffe 8./JG 26 Schlageter, "Black 7", Karl Borris, March 1942, w/Compass Platform Display Base

1:72 Scale   Length   Width
Focke-Wulf Fw 190A   4.75"   5.75"

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Würger ("shrike") was one of the Luftwaffe's best single-seat fighters of WWII. Such was its success that more than 20,000 were manufactured from 1941 through to the end of the war. There were a number of upgrades and variants introduced in its lifetime, one of which was the 190A-3. This particular fighter began rolling off the factory floors in the spring of 1942, and was equipped with a 1700hp BMW 801D-2 engine. This engine required higher-octane fuel, and upon its introduction, the Fw 190A-3 ruled the skies over the Eastern Front.

Dragon Warbirds has unveiled a splendid model of an Fw 190A-3. It carries typical armaments plus a 300-liter drop tank under the fuselage. It represents "Black 7", the aircraft flown by the ace Oberleutenant Karl Borris. He was appointed Staffelkapitan of 8./JG 26 on 10 November 1941 and he finished WWII with a tally of 43 aerial victories in the West by the end of the war. The highly detailed model is produced to Dragon's exacting specifications and is finely painted and finished. It includes recessed panel lines and opening canopy, but the unique thing about this model is its diorama base. The 1/72 scale model is mounted on a compass platform, an apparatus designed to raise the tail of an aircraft to allow it to test its guns on the ground. The diorama base includes this special ramp and a realistic-looking landscape that is even littered with oil drums that make this a truly inspirational collectors' item!

Focke-Wulf Fw 190A

Designed by Kurt Tank, the Fw-190A was first flown on June 1st, 1939. This small, yet ferociously-powered aircraft was fast and maneuverable and packed a fierce armament package earning it the nickname "Butcher Bird". The wide landing gear, excellent visibility and high-altitude paddle-bladed propeller endeared it to pilots familiar with the shortcomings of its predecessor - the Messerschmitt Bf 109. Some of the Luftwaffe's most famous fighter aces flew the Fw 190. Many variants were produced during the war, with the most notable being the inline-engine equipped and longer-nosed 190D, known as the "Dora."

The mold for the Fw 190 also allows for both the early war "A" model and late war long-nose "D" model to be produced, with separate castings for each fuselage. The paint schemes are expertly airbrushed to bring out the subtleties of the panel lines, rivets, control surface detail and trim tabs. Pad-printed unit markings and finely detailed placards complete this historically accurate model. The elevators and rudder are hinged and movable, which is uncommon in 1:72 scale. The sliding canopy opens to reveal a fully detailed cockpit with pad-printed instruments and side panels.
