Skylab was the United States' first space station, and the second space station visited by a human crew. It was also the only space station NASA launched alone. The 100-ton space station was in Earth's orbit from 1973 to 1979 and it was visited by crews three times in 1973 and 1974. The station underwent extensive repair during a spacewalk by the first crew, which launched on 25 May 1973 (the SL-2 mission) atop a Saturn IB.

Chrysler/Douglas Saturn IB Rocket

Designed as an uprated version of the Saturn I rocket, the Saturn IB had its maiden flight on February 26, 1966. The Saturn IB's primary original function was to allow NASA to continue to test the Apollo spacecraft while the much more powerful Saturn V rocket was still in its development stages. With its more powerful S-IVB second stage (which replaced the Saturn I's S-IV), the Saturn IB was capable of launching the partially-fueled Apollo Command/Service Module or the Lunar Module into the Earth's orbit. After the Apollo missions, Saturn IBs were used for the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project and for Skylab flights.

Dragon's 1:400 scale Saturn IB Rocket is constructed with a mix of diecast metal and plastic, which gives it a heavy feel with scale accuracy. The cluster of eight Redstone fuel tanks that comprise the lower stage and the permanently-fixed second stage are constructed in diecast metal, while the eight fins and the exhaust nozzles of the H-1 rocket's engines are constructed in plastic for greater accuracy. The model is topped with the famous Apollo Command/Service Module, complete with Launch Escape System.
