Airbus A320 Diecast Model
Air New Zealand, ZK-OAB "All Blacks"

Airbus A320   3.75"   3.25"

In the world of rugby, the “All Blacks” name is one of the most famous of all. And for rugby-mad New Zealanders, the All Blacks are the ultimate national icon. It is little surprise then to find that Air New Zealand opted to paint one of its aircraft in special colors reflecting the honored status of the national rugby team. Indeed, an Airbus A320-232 was recently delivered to the national-flag carrier wearing All Black colors. The one-off livery forms part of the airline’s Crazy About Rugby campaign. This aircraft, with code ZK-OAB, will fly on domestic routes within Aotearoa to promote the airline’s sponsorship of the rugby team, as well as to celebrate New Zealand’s part in hosting the 2011 Rugby World Cup. It’s also the first of 14 new A320 aircraft that will join the Air New Zealand fleet over the next five years. Dragon Wings has produced a delightful commemorative 1/400 scale model of this special aircraft. Painted in black, the aircraft model bears the famous silver fern logo that also adorns the shirts of All Blacks players. The livery is sharply and precisely rendered, while the aircraft itself is accurately shaped and dimensioned. Wearing its stunning rugby “uniform”, this model will be popular with aircraft and rugby fans alike!

Airbus A320

Designed as a short/medium range narrow-body airliner to compete with the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 was first flown on February 22nd, 1987. The A320 features side stick controllers and glass cockpit and was the world's first airliner to use use a digital fly-by-wire control system. Controversially, the software includes "flight envelope protection" to prevent the pilot from exceeding safe flight parameters. The highly successful design rapidly led to the development of the shortened-fuselage A318 and A319, and lengthened-fuselage A321 derivatives. More than 4,500 of the A320 family have been produced, almost all of which are still in active service.
