Swarm ships were small, two-person craft left in large numbers on Altamid by the planet's original inhabitants sometime prior to the 2160s. Following the crash of the USS Franklin in the 22nd century, these craft were employed by Krall to waylay orbiting starships. Swarm ships were capable of space and atmospheric flight, and were equipped with warp drive. They were piloted by two drones and, when not in use, docked in tree-like formations at towers on the surface of Altamid. The ship is accessible through a circular hatch in the rear. Though apparently lacking weaponry, Swarm ships were durable enough to inflict heavy damage on other ships by ramming them. When colliding with another ship, a Swarm ship could elect to penetrate only partway and deploy its lateral prongs to anchor itself; the nose of the ship could then split open to release drones inside the target vessel. Swarm ships were susceptible to phasers, but operate in such large numbers that phaser fire was overall ineffective against them. They were too small and nimble to be effectively targeted by photon torpedoes. (Star Trek Beyond)

Eaglemoss STAR TREK

The Eaglemoss Collections "STAR TREK" range presents highly-detailed, ready made diecast models of "STAR TREK" starships including the most significant vessels from all five STAR TREK TV series, including dozens of ships that have never been produced before. Each ship has been painstakingly recreated in die-cast metal and high quality ABS and then painted by hand.

Best of all, many editions come with a special collectorís magazine (See photos) that provides an in-depth profile of the ship, with detailed annotations, and a breakdown of the technology on board, its crew and weapons. Exclusive behind-the-scenes articles, complete with original design sketches, reveal how the ship was designed. There is an informative examination of the shooting model (or models) used by the VFX team, and a history of the shipís on screen appearances.

Eaglemoss "STAR TREK" diecast starships feature:

  • Diecast metal construction with some plastic components.
  • Realistic surface details.
  • Pad printed markings and placards that won't fade or peel like decals.
  • Presentation stand to display the ship "in flight".
