The Su-27 Flanker was officially unveiled to the Western world at the Paris Airshow in 1989. Despite its large size, it impressed military observers with its awesome maneuvrability and firepower. Gaincorp have reproduced the graceful lines of this machine in intricate detail with several great features including a large ordnance load, opening canopy, moving airbrake, rudders, flaperons and leading edge wing slats. Also included are two hand-painted pilot figures. The Su-27UBK ("K" for "Kommercial"), the Su-27UB export version with modified on-board equipment, is in service with the Air Forces in China, Vietnam, Ethiopia. The Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) has acquired three batches, totalling 76, of Su-27 fighters from Russia since 1992. Two variants are currently serving with the PLAAF: the single-seat Su-27SK fighter manufactured by KnAAPO at Komsomolsk-na-Amur and the two-seat Su-27UBK fighter-trainer manufactured by IAPO at Irkusk. A large and impressive model, the Su-27 makes an awesome addition to any modern jet fighter collection. Designed as a fly-by-wire long range fighter capable of taking on the United States’ F-15 Eagle, the Su-27 was first flown on May 20th, 1977. Despite its large size, it impressed military observers with its awesome agility when first unveiled to the West at the 1989 Paris Air Show. The swept-wing style blends into the fuselage at the leading edge extensions, with the wingtips cropped for missile placement. With a heads-up display, helmet-mounted sight, 30mm cannon and up to 10 hardpoint missiles, the Flanker is one of the world’s best modern dogfighter aircraft. © Copyright 2003-2010 The Flying Mule, Inc.
