The Japan Air Self Defense Force operates more than 200 F-15Js, making its fleet of F-15s the second largest in the world. Armed with a 20mm Vulcan Cannon M61A1, medium range AIM-7 Sparrow and short range AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, this aircraft is the JASDF's primary fighter. In 1999, the 305th squadron sent its six F-15Js to Guam for the Japan/US joint military exercises, marking the first time JASDF fighter planes were dispatched outside of Japan. Gaincorp have faithfully reproduced the lines of this aircraft, including opening canopy, moving rudders, and crew access ladder. Designed to meet US Air Force requirements for an air superiority fighter to replace the F-4 Phantom, the F-15 Eagle first flew on July 27, 1972. Following reviews of proposals, the United States Air Force selected McDonnell Douglas's design in 1969 to meet the service's need for a dedicated air superiority fighter. Since entering service in 1976, it is among the most successful modern fighters, with over 100 victories and no losses in aerial combat, with the majority of the kills by the Israeli Air Force. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
