The 27th Fighter Squadron is the oldest fighter squadron in the U.S. Air Force. As one of three fighter squadrons of the 1st Fighter Wing, the 27th is tasked to provide air superiority for United States or allied forces by engaging and destroying enemy forces, equipment, defenses or installations for global deployment. In 2003, the 27th Fighter Squadron was announced as the first operational squadron to fly the Raptor—a continuation of the squadron's historical legacy. The first F-22A arrived in late 2004 the squadron continues to grow as more Raptors arrive each month. The 27th Fighter Squadron today stands as a cohesive combat experienced team ready for any call to support the United States' security requirements. The F-22 Raptor represents the next generation air superiorty fighter for the United States Air Force. Featuring low-obeservable Stealth technology, Supercruise (non-afterburning supersonic flight) ability, Thrust Vectoring and highly advanced avionics, the Raptor has been designed from the ground up to rule the skies! Gaincorp have faithfully reproduced this revolutionary new fighter in 1:72 scale with many great features including opening bomb-bay doors with push-button weapon deployment, opening canopy with detailed cockpit interior, moving flaps and rudders and optional crew access ladder and arrestor hook. As an accurate scale representation of such an impressive piece of new technology, this model belongs in any modern jet fighter collection. Designed to meet the USAF’s requirement for an advanced tactical fighter, the F-22 was first flown on September 29th, 1990. This single-seat, twin-engine fighter features a standard internal 20mm cannon and weapon bays. Its advanced turbofans allow the aircraft to operate at supersonic speeds without the need for afterburning—a technology termed “supercruise.” The F-22’s shape and highly secret coatings and composite material construction give it stealth-like capabilities. The USAF considers the F-22 a critical component of the strike force, and claims that the F-22 cannot be matched by any known or projected fighter aircraft.© Copyright 2003-2009 The Flying Mule, Inc.
