Herpa 1:200 Wings 552172
Panavia Tornado ECR Diecast Model
Luftwaffe JBG 32 Tigers, Lechfeld, Germany, High-Speed Configuration

1:200 Scale   Length   Width
Panavia Tornado ECR   3.25"   2.75"

The all-purpose fighter or "Multi Role Combat Aircraft" Tornado was developed in 1969 as a result of the foundation of a German- Italian- English aerospace consortium. A fighter with two engines of the type RB-100, also developed collectively, developing a tremendous 7,200 kg of thrust with afterburners and capable of catapulting pilots to twice the speed of sound. Manned by two pilots, the Tornado was indeed able to replace many of its predecessor planes, foremost the infamous "Starfighter". The German air force went on to purchase 35 examples of the especially effective reconnaissance "ECR" version, equipped with all electronically-controlled equipment like radar, cameras and heat detectors capable even of recognizing matchbox-sized objects. Among these, 46-45, our original, is based at Lechfeld, Bavaria, and belongs to the "Lechfeld Tigers". It belongs to the 1st group of JaboG32 ECR-squadron.

Please note: This model features wings permanently positioned in the rear-swept position for high-speed flight.

Panavia Tornado ECR

Designed in collaboration with Britain, West Germany and Italy, the Tornado was first flown on August 14th, 1974 and is thought by many to be the most important military aircraft in Western European history. Nicknamed "The Flying Fin" because of its large tail fin, the Tornado has a variable wing sweep design and is capable of taking off and landing on short airstrips. It is equipped with terrain-following radar, which allows for hands-off, low-level flight in any weather. There are three primary versions: an electronic combat/reconnaissance version, an interceptor and a highly versatile strike fighter-bomber capable of carrying almost all of NATO's air-launched weapons.
