The "Mriya" ("Dream") exhibits a number of awe-inspiring capabilities and figures: With a maximum take-off weight of 460.000 kg (1.4 million pounds) it is the heaviest aircraft in the world and with its wing span of 88 meters (290 ft) also the largest. The AN-225 holds numerous world records, such as for the the heaviest payload at 189 tons. This second to none aircraft is now released as a Herpa model in the 1/200 scale. The solid fuselage and the wings with a span of over 44 cm (more than 17 in) rest on 32 rubber tires. A special display stand made of acrylic glass is included with each model.
Designed as a strategic airlift cargo aircraft, the An-225 Mriya (Dream) was first flown on December 21st, 1988. The An-225 was developed as an enlarged derivative of the An-124 for carrying the Buran-class orbiter vehcile.
