The Hellenic Air Force, abbreviated to HAF is the air force of Greece. The mission of the Hellenic Air Force is to guard and protect Greek airspace, provide air assistance and support to the Hellenic Army and the Hellenic Navy, as well as the provision of humanitarian aid in Greece and around the world.
On April 5th, 1974 the first F-4E's landed at Andravida, Greece and assigned to the 117 Combat Wing. On March 31st, 1978 the 337 Day Intercept Squadron was decommissioned. On September 7th, 1978 it was re-established at 117CW but on the 11th was redeployed to the 110CW as the 337 All-Weather Squadron flying F-4Es. Their primary mission was interception with a secondary of fighter-bomber. Aircraft 01511 was the first to receive the "Aegean Ghost" camouflage pattern. The F-4 was replaced by the F-16 and Mirage 2000.
The twin-engine, two-seat, all-weather attack/fighter F-4 Phantom II first flew on May 27th, 1958. The Phantom performed three tactical air roles—air superiority, interdiction and close air support—and was also a capable tactical reconnaissance and Wild Weasel (suppression of enemy air defenses) aircraft. It was armed with missiles and was the first Navy fighter that did not use guns. In air combat the Phantom's powerful thrust permitted a skilled pilot to engage and disengage from the fight at will. © Copyright 2003-2010 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Hobby Master's 1:72 scale F-4 Phantom II is highly detailed and very popular among collectors. This model has an intricately crafted fuselage, with rear and forward canopies that open to expose cockpit interior details such as instrument panel dials, control stick and ejector seat handles. The solid metal wing has raised wing-tips and a dog-toothed leading edge that blends seamlessly into the fuselage. Each release includes a full complement of removable ordnance. Variants in this series have notable differences in the nose and/or tail fin and slight variations in the engines’ exhaust. Carrier-based variants have elevators with a raised leading edge, and land-based variants have standard leading edges.
