The Hellenic AF (Elliniki Polimiki Aeroporia Greek AF) took delivery of 20 Convair F-102A Delta Daggers in June 1969 as well as 2 (some sources say 6) TF-102A for training. The aircraft arrived painted in the original U.S. gray scheme with the HAF roundels. In 1973 the aircraft received their two-tone green, tan and gray schemes. These aircraft equipped the 342nd All Weather Squadron at Tanagra. These aircraft had a rather short service length in Greece because the F-102's were replaced by the Mirage F-1CG in 1977.
The F-102 was first flown on October 24, 1953. This aircraft was the USAF's first delta-wing fighter, and was also the USAF's first operational supersonic interceptor. Its primary mission was to intercept Soviet bombers, though it was also used as a bomber escort and ground attack aircraft during the Vietnam War. F-102s served with the USAF until the mid to late 1960s, when many of them were transferred to the US Air National Guard. By 1973, many F-102s were being used as target drones for testing the Patriot missile system, and the type was officially retired from service in 1976. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Hobby Master's 1:72 scale F-102 Delta Dagger is a quality model with many fine features, skillfully designed and manufactured with modern techniques. The hinged canopy opens to reveal a pad-printed instrument panel and radar screen. The speed brake can be configured in the deployed position, and the landing gear and gear doors are constructed as subassemblies for quick and easy ground configuration. The solid metal wing is masterfully recreated with downturned leading edges, raised wingtips, razor thin wing fences and removable fuel tanks. The three segmented weapons bays are constructed as a one-piece subassembly, and the six Falcon missiles feature finely detailed trapeze mounts.
