In 1943 every tenth Douglas A-20G was produced with a new transparent Plexiglas nose that would accommodate a Norden bombsight and bombardier. The new A-20J variant would be the formation leader on bombing runs and when this aircraft dropped its bombs everyone else knew it was their turn. The RAF called the A-20J the Boston Mk. IV and received 169 beginning in the summer of 1944. This particular aircraft, with 105 mission markings, was piloted by Flt. Sgt. John Samain DFM and flown against targets in northern Italy and the Balkans.
