Hobby Master 1:48 Air Power Series HA7508
Boeing P-26A Peashooter Diecast Model
USAAC, Wheeler Field, HI, December 6th 1941

1:48 Scale   Length   Width
Boeing P-26A Peashooter   6"   7"

At the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii the Boeing P-26 Peashooter had been removed from front line duty and replaced by the newer Seversky P-35 and Curtiss P-36A. The P-26 duties were now mechanic training, spare parts and hack flights between islands. On December 7, 1941 there were approximately 10 P-26s at Wheeler Field located on the island of Oahu but after the attack six had been destroyed and one damaged. It is thought that two P-26s got airborne during the raid but doubt they inflicted any damage.

Boeing P-26A Peashooter

Designed as a pursuit monoplane for the USAAC, the P-26 was first flown on March 20th, 1932. Affectionately nicknamed "Peashooter," the P-26 was the first all-metal production fighter. Its wings were braced with wire rather than rigid struts, which created less drag and allowed for greater maneuverability and faster flight-so fast, in fact, that landing flaps had to be added to slow the aircraft down upon final approach. The cockpit area sat forward of center, and the pilot had nothing but a small windscreen to protect his face and a protruding headrest to protect his head.

Hobby Master's 1:48 scale P-26 Peashooter is a beautifully constructed model, with an open cockpit that offers an unobstructed view of details such as pad printed dials and a control stick with hand-painted handgrip. The small annular cowling surrounding the engine provides a clear view of the radial engine, and the cooling fins and pushrod on the cylinder heads can be clearly seen behind the free-spinning metal propeller. The complex routing of each exhaust pipe is also easily seen. The wing features fine gauge wire used to represent structural bracing wires, and two types of removable bomb loads are included for varying display options.
