The 101st Airborne Division was activated on 16 August 1942 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana. Eventually moved to England and continued training until D-day, June 6, 1944. They were pathfinders and became the first Americans to set foot in occupied France. They took part in Operation "Market Garden", Battle of the Bulge, they captured Hitler's mountain retreat at Berchtesgaden. On 30 November 1945, the Screaming Eagles were inactivated. Inactivated and re-activated several times before taking part in the Vietnam War and many other operations around the world.
Designed to meet a US Department of War requirement for a light, cross-country reconnaissance vehicle, the Willys MB Army Jeep was manufactured between 1941 and 1945. The Willys Jeep was the original version of what would later become one of the most iconic vehicles in American history, evolving into a popular civilian vehicle that is still being produced today. The Willys Jeep was a compact, four-wheel drive vehicle that rapidly became one of the most prolific vehicles of WWII. Hobby Master's 1:48 scale Jeep packs a lot of scale detail into a small package. The chassis and drive train is constructed almost entirely in diecast metal providing a nice weighted feel to the model. The interior features a pad-printed instrument panel, separately painted seat cushions and scale steering wheel and transmission gear-shifts levers. Each release highlights a variety of cabin equipment configurations such as a center mounted machine gun, open or closed ragtop and rear mounted radio equipment (See Photos). Separately applied battlefield equipment includes shovels, hatchets, jerry cans and a spare tire. Underneath the model the drive train and leaf-spring suspension are clearly visible.
