The 116th Panzer Division was formed on March 28, 1944 was given the name "Greyhound Division". In July 1944 the 116th was sent to Normandy and for the first few weeks of August the Germans and Allies battled for the area around Mortain in Normandy. This became the largest tank battle of the campaign. Finally the Germans retreated through the Falaise Pocket and when it was all over the 116th PD only had 600 men and 12 tanks. They werere-supplied and fought until April 4, 1945.
Designed as a heavily-armored reconnaissance vehicle with the mission of observing enemy forces, the Schwerer PanzerspƤhwagen first entered service in the mid 1930s. Originally based on a 6x4 truck design, these large but fast armored vehicles evolved to include eight-wheel designs. Though not meant to engage enemy forces, PanzerspƤhwagens could withstand small arms fire and could return fire with a 2 cm KwK 30 L/55 autocannon. The better-armed Sd Kfz. 234 Puma had a heavier gun that was capable of destroying armored cars and light tanks. These vehicles were operated throughout the war, though the extreme conditions in the USSR and North Africa limited their usefulness. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
Hobby Master's 1:72 scale Puma Armored Car is manufactured with an intelligent blend of diecast metal and plastic, which gives it both weight and detail. The top portion of the hull is made of plastic with the lower portion constructed in diecast metal. Details include separately-applied shovels, tire jack and spare tire and front and rear driver's guide antennas. The wishbone and leaf spring suspension can be seen on the underside. Variants include the Sd.Kfz. 234/2 with 360 degree rotating turret, smoke grenades and pivoting 20mm metal cannon and the Sd.Kfz. 234/3 with pivoting 75mm gun and breech housed in a raised open superstructure.
