Northwest Territorial, C-FIJR, 1976

1:200 Scale   Length   Width
Lockheed L-188 Electra   6.25"   6"

C-FIJR was ordered on October 17, 1959 by Northwest Airlines. The aircraft was manufactured as an L-188C under c/n 1138 and delivered on March 29, 1961 registered as N134US. In April 1968 Northwest had Lockheed convert the plane to an L-188PF. In 1971 the aircraft was sold to International Jetair Ltd of Calgary Alberta and leased to Imperial Oil Ltd. (ESSO). In late 1976 Jetair was bought by Northwest Territorial Airways. In 1997 NWT was bought by First Air. C-FIJR was sold to Air Contractors (Air Bridge Carriers who became Hunting Cargo Lines in 1992) in the UK and registered the aircraft as G-FIJR who in turn sold it to Atlantic Cargo Airlines that became Atlantic Airlines.

Lockheed L-188 Electra

Designed and built by Lockheed for American Airlines, the L-188 Electra first flew on December 6, 1957. The L-188 was the first turboprop airliner produced in the United States, with standard seating for 66 to 88 passengers. Powered by four Allison 501D-13 turboprops, the aircraft performed nearly as well as contemporary turbojets but cost less to operate. Unfortunately, two fatal accidents quickly eroded faith in the type and led to early cancelation of production. Electras were most infamously flown by the Argentine Navy, who used them to dispose of political prisoners over the Rio de La Plata.
