Lockheed L-188 Electra Diecast Model
LA Dodgers, N1R Kay-O, 1963

Lockheed L-188 Electra   6.25"   6"

Team owner Walter O'Malley wanted a Lockheed L-188A Electra for his Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team and acquired one owned by General Motors. In the spring of 1961 it was given a customized paint scheme and interior and named Kay-O after O'Malley's wife. After winning the 1963 World Series the aircraft received a special paint scheme and continued to transport the team until 1970 when the Dodgers purchased a Boeing 720. The Electra was sold to American Airlines as N1432 who in 1995 sold it to Air Spray in Canada.

Lockheed L-188 Electra

Designed and built by Lockheed for American Airlines, the L-188 Electra first flew on December 6, 1957. The L-188 was the first turboprop airliner produced in the United States, with standard seating for 66 to 88 passengers. Powered by four Allison 501D-13 turboprops, the aircraft performed nearly as well as contemporary turbojets but cost less to operate. Unfortunately, two fatal accidents quickly eroded faith in the type and led to early cancelation of production. Electras were most infamously flown by the Argentine Navy, who used them to dispose of political prisoners over the Rio de La Plata.
