In October 1964 Ansett-ANA ordered Fokker F-27 c/n 10280 that would be delivered as PH-FGX on August 17 1965. The aircraft would go on to become the property of two other airlines before coming to Northwest Airlink (operated by Mesaba Airlines) as N278MA on May 15 1990 where it operated until May 15 1995. F-27s were first used by the airline in 1988 but by 1991 the first of 25 De Havilland Dash 8 replacements were arriving. N278MA was last operated by Eagle Jet Charter Inc and in 2006 was used for parts. The aircraft had flown 61,585 hours and 63,535 cycles.

Fokker F27-100 Friendship

Designed as a pressurized, turboprop medium-range airliner, the F27 was first flown on November 24th, 1955.
