N1758B is a McDonnell Douglas passenger variant of the MD-11. It was built as c/n 48527 powered by 3 GE CF6-80C2D1F engines and was delivered to American Airlines in July 1992. The new MD-11s were replacements for the AA DC-10s and became their main long-haul jet. The MD-11 turned out to be far less efficient than McDonnell Douglas had stated so AA only purchased 8 of their firm order aircraft and 11 of their optional 42. All 19 AA MD-11’s were sold to FedEx and converted to freighters.
Please note: Unlike other models in the Hobby Master Airliner Series, this model features diecast metal wings with a plastic fuselage containing a metal insert to add weight. The painting and markings are applied with the same precision as other models in the line however, so this model still looks perfectly at home in any diecast collection.
Important note: Due to a manufacturing error, this model arrives with the wing-flap actuators (under the wings) installed in a reverse facing direction. The model ships with a set of replacement actuators and instructions on how to remove and replace them using super-glue (not included).
Designed as a wide-bodied passenger and freight transport, the MD11 was first flown on January 10th, 1990. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
