In 1948 Braniff began service to South America and appropriately called the service “El Conquistador” with an El Conquistador logo on their DC-4s and DC-6s. October 20 1956 Braniff International Airways received their first Douglas DC-7C. The new DC-7Cs service would be called “El Dorado” after the mythical “Lost City of Gold” and an “El Dorado” logo applied. DC-7C N5906 received a Certificate of Airworthiness and delivered to Braniff. On August 15, 1963 the nose gear collapsed and the damage was repaired. In September 1970 N5906 was sold.
Designed to meet an American Airlines requirement for a long-range passenger airliner with superior performance to the Lockheed Super Constellation, the DC-7 was first flown on May 18th, 1953. © Copyright 2003-2026 The Flying Mule, Inc.
