The Douglas DC-7C N739PA c/n 44881 was delivered to Pan American on June 22, 1956 and named "Clipper Flora Temple" and later "Clipper Courser". In 1960 the aircraft was converted to a DC-7CF freighter and in 1966 was sold to Intercontinental Air, the first of several new owners. The last owner was National Aircraft who acquired the aircraft in December 1970 and operated it until November 1973 when it was withdrawn from service and placed in storage in Miami, Florida awaiting the scrap yard.

Designed to meet an American Airlines requirement for a long-range passenger airliner with superior performance to the Lockheed Super Constellation, the DC-7 was first flown on May 18th, 1953.
