When the Douglas Aircraft Company unveiled their new DC-2 in early 1934 Fokker knew wooden aircraft were out dated so he negotiated with Douglas to build the aircraft. He also won the contract to build the DC-3 and managed to sell 100 DC-2 and DC-3 in Europe. On December 4, 1934 the first Fokker built DC-2-115B MSN 1321 for Swissair was delivered and registered as HB-ITI. On February 28, 1936 the aircraft crash landed on takeoff due to icing, there were no fatalities.

Douglas DC-2

Designed to meet a TWA requirement for a passenger aircraft comparable to the Boeing Model 247, the DC-2 was first flown in 1934.
