Lockheed 1049A EC-121K Warning Star (137890 c/n 1049A-4347) was delivered to the US Navy in March 1955. This type of aircraft was designated a WV-2, referred to as a “Willie Victor” by its crews but in 1962 they were re-designated EC-121 but kept the “Warning Star” nickname. Aircraft 137890 was assigned to NAS Point Mugu, California’s Pacific Missile Range (PMR) as a down-range missile tracker. In May 1979 137890 was placed in storage until October 1985 when it was moved to Tinker AFB, Oklahoma and displayed as 53-0552.
