Possessing one of the most sophisticated avionics suites and the ability to fly extremely well at slower speeds, the A-6 Intruder carried out precise bombing missions no other aircraft could during the Vietnam War. Introduced to service in February 1963, the US born Intruder was a two-seat all-weather attack aircraft that reached a maximum speed of 684 mph and could carry up to 18,000 pounds, including nuclear weapons, conventional and guided bombs, and drop tanks.

Grumman A-6E Intruder

Designed to meet a US Navy requirement for an all-weather carrier-based long-range low-level tactical attack/strike aircraft, the A-6 Intruder was first flown on April 19th, 1960. The Intruder carried more than 30 types of bombs, rockets, missiles or mines, and could detect, identify, track and destroy tactical targets, day or night. A-6 Intruders were the US Navy and Marine Corps’ principal medium from the mid-1960s through the 1990s, seeing action during the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Restore Hope in Somalia and Bosnia. The A-6 was a sophisticated machine, combining computer technology with a sturdy airframe to produce a remarkably effective warplane.
