Unimax Forces of Valor 85052
M3 Lee Tank Diecast Model
US Army, Tunisia, 1942

1:72 Scale   Length   Width
M3 Lee Tank   3.25"   1.5"

The M3 Grant was a United States tank design that was modified for the British Army. The British Government had sought a complete British design, but had to accept a modified U.S. designed Tank. The British Army did not like the high profile of the standard U.S. turret, so they offered a lower profile turret with more crew space that would fit within the same turret ring.

M3 Lee

The M3 first saw action against Rommel's forces in North Africa, in 1942. It battled on every front, fighting for the armies of United States, United Kingdom and the Soviet Union, eventually replaced by the superior M4 Sherman tank series. The M3 had an unusual turret design with the main weapon -a 75 mm gun- in an off center mounting in the hull. A small cupola on top held a machine gun, giving the effect of one turret on top of another. Unhappy with the tall profile, The British, had their own turret fitted-this one lower in profile with a bustle at the back for the radio set. Tanks manufactured with the new turret received the name Grant while the original M3s were called Lee.

Forces of Valor's 1:72 M3s include hulls made from diecast metal, which showcase fantastic scale detail such as riveted armor plating. Other details include a pivoting offset hull-mounted main 75 mm cannon, a rotating top turret with pivoting 37mm cannon and a hand painted crew figure inside the small cupola on top of the turret. The hatches and rear mounted tools are well detailed, and a high level of detailing is also applied to the vehicle's working track system. Subtle weathering effects complete the piece.
