The Tornado F3 made its maiden flight on 20 November 1985. Enhancements over the F2 included RB.199 Mk 104 engines, which were optimised for high-altitude use with longer afterburner nozzles, the capacity to carry four underwing Sidewinder missiles rather than two, and automatic wing sweep control. The F3's primary weapons when it entered service were the short-range Sidewinder and medium-range SkyFlash, a British missile based on the American AIM-7 Sparrow. No. 111 (Fighter) Squadron of the Royal Air Force operated the Panavia Tornado F3 from RAF Leuchars, Scotland until March 2011, when the squadron was disbanded, ending the Tornado F3's RAF service.

Panavia Tornado F.Mk 3

Designed in collaboration with Britain, West Germany and Italy, the Tornado was first flown on August 14th, 1974 and is thought by many to be the most important military aircraft in Western European history. Nicknamed "The Flying Fin" because of its large tail fin, the Tornado has a variable wing sweep design and is capable of taking off and landing on short airstrips. It is equipped with terrain-following radar, which allows for hands-off, low-level flight in any weather. There are three primary versions: an electronic combat/reconnaissance version, an interceptor and a highly versatile strike fighter-bomber capable of carrying almost all of NATO's air-launched weapons.

Witty's 1:72 scale Tornado is beautifully crafted, featuring subtle panel lines and other tiny details generally only seen in plastic models. This model has the trademark long, sleek nose cone found only on this variant, and an articulating swing-wing design that can be configured in varying sweep position. The canopy opens to reveal cockpit interior detail and removable pilot figures. Below the model's massive fin are movable elevators that rotate independently, deployable speed brakes, simulated heat shielding and detailed engine exhaust. The removable wing mounted fuel tanks with separately attachable ordnance can be positioned to fit any swept-wing configuration.
