The 53rd WEG, which falls under the 53rd Wing at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., provides the personnel and infrastructure to test and evaluate weapons utilized by the combat air forces of the United States and its allies. The group operates the only full-scale aerial drones in the Defense Department. In 2012, the 53rd WEG began evaluation the QF-16, a supersonic reusable full-scale aerial target drone modified from an F-16 Fighting Falcon. The 53rd WEG currently uses QF-4s, made from 1960s F-4 Phantom, to conduct their full-scale aerial target missions. These targets allow the Air Force and allied nations to have a realistic understanding of what they could face on the battlefield.

Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".

Lockheed QF-16 Victim Viper

Designed by General Dynamics as a lightweight, daytime USAF air-combat fighter, the F-16 was first flown on January 20th, 1974. This single-engine, supersonic aircraft has, over the years, evolved into a multirole aircraft. It has a frameless bubble canopy—giving its pilot superior visibility—and it uses advanced aerodynamics. The F-16 was one of the first designs to use a relaxed static stability/fly-by-wire system, which helps it pull 9-g maneuvers and achieve speeds of more than Mach 2. Called "Viper" by its pilots, the F-16 is considered one of the most successful aircraft designs of the Cold War, with 4,400+ aircraft built since 1976.

Witty's 1:72 scale F-16 is constructed of solid diecast metal. Very few plastic parts are used, yet the finer points—detailed landing gear, engine exhaust, cockpit interior and panel lines and rivet details—are reminiscent of those usually only found on plastic models. Even subtle details have been included, such as radar warning antenna "beer cans," static discharge wicks and angle of attack vanes. This model, available as either a single-seat C variant or a two-seat D variant, is highly configurable, with movable stabilators, positionable rudder, a hinged canopy with extending and retracting actuator and a variety of different weapons configurations.
