The Su-27 is a highly integrated twin-finned aircraft. The airframe is constructed of titanium and high-strength aluminium alloys. The engine nacelles are fitted with trouser fairings to provide a continuous streamlined profile between the nacelles and the tail beams. The fins and horizontal tail consoles are attached to tail beams. The central beam section between the engine nacelles consists of the equipment compartment, fuel tank and the brake parachute container. The fuselage head is of semi-monocoque construction and includes the cockpit, radar compartments and the avionics bay. The Sukhoi Su-27 (NATO codename: Flanker) is the twin-engine front-line fighter aircraft designed by the Russian Sukhoi Design Bureau and manufactured by Komsomolsk-na-Amur based KnAAPO (Su-27SK) and Irkusk-based IAPO (Su-27UBK). The PLA Air Force (PLAAF) has acquired three batches totaling 76 Su-27Sk and UBK fighters from Russia since 1992. An optional metal display stand, WT-WTW72027S, is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".
Designed as a fly-by-wire long range fighter capable of taking on the United States’ F-15 Eagle, the Su-27 was first flown on May 20th, 1977. Despite its large size, it impressed military observers with its awesome agility when first unveiled to the West at the 1989 Paris Air Show. The swept-wing style blends into the fuselage at the leading edge extensions, with the wingtips cropped for missile placement.
