The Sturmgeschutz IV (StuG IV), was a German assault gun variant of the Panzer IV used in the latter part of the Second World War. Identical in role and concept to the highly successful StuG III assault gun variant of the Panzer III, both StuG models were given an exclusively tank destroyer role in German formations and tactical planning in the last two years of the war, greatly augmenting the capability of the dwindling tank force available to the German army on the Eastern and Western fronts.
The StuG IV was a German assault gun used in WWII. The StuG IV was a StuG III superstructure mounted on a Panzer IV chassis and was armed with a 75mm Pak 39 L/48 as the main canon. The StuG IV was produced because of the shortage of 75 Pak 42 L/70 for the Jagdpanzer IV and because the main factory that produced StuG IIIs was bombed. The StuG IV's production began in late 1943 and served with great success alongside the StuG III. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
