USAF 436th AW Eagle Wing, #69-0014, Dover AFB, DE

1:200 Scale   Length   Width
Lockheed C-5A Galaxy   15"   13.25"

The 436th Airlift Wing, known as "Eagle Wing", is assigned to Air Mobility Command's Eighteenth Air Force, based at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware. The wing's Lockheed C-5 Galaxy and Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft provides 25 percent of the nation's inter-theater airlift capability, providing worldwide movement of outsized cargo and personnel on scheduled, special assignment, exercise and contingency airlift missions. The 436th is the only combat-ready C-5 Galaxy wing capable of employing airdrop and special operations tactics in support of worldwide airlift. The wing routinely flies airlift missions throughout the world projecting global reach to more than 90 countries on six different continents including Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, North and South America. Additionally, the Eagle Wing operates the largest and busiest aerial port in the Department of Defense with its passenger terminal moving over 100,000 passengers in 1998.

With a length of 38 cm and a wing span of 34 cm, the C-5, also nicknamed "Lockheed Hilton" for its cavernous cargo hold, possesses considerable dimensions - even in 1/200. Metal landing gear with rubber tires provide a sure standing for this resin-made model.

Lockheed C-5A Galaxy

Designed to meet a USAF requirement for a heavy logistics transport, the C-5 was first flown on June 30th, 1968. The t-tail configuration provides unobstructed access to the large rear loading ramp which, in combination with the massive hinged nose, allows for "drive-through" loading and unloading of cargo. The C-5 is one of the largest military aircraft ever built and its cavernous cargo compartment measures 121 feet long by 19 feet wide and 13.5 feet high. This is in addition to an upper deck with seating for 73 passengers. Current versions of the aircraft are capable of lifting up to 270,000 lbs of cargo.
