Looking at the KV-2 now one might say "what were they thinking". But at the beginning of WWII this monster of a tank was a fearsome sight on the early battlefields. There was nothing else like it and the heavy armor made it almost impenetrable by any tank the Germans had at the time. As the war progressed, the Germans developed better tanks with greater firepower. The large KV-2 became an easy target and because of it being under powered for its size it was slow moving. Another drawback was it was designed as a break-through tank and was deployed in small units. One of the most costly factors for the KV-2 was the inability of the Soviets to keep these machines supplied with fuel andammunition. As a result many were just abandoned by their crew when they realizedre-supply wasn’t coming.
Designed to replace the disappointing multi-turreted T-35 heavy tank, the Soviet KV was in service from 1939 to 1945. The primary goal of the KV's designers was to build a tank with impenetrable armor, and they succeeded-any tank in service at the time of the KV's introduction would have had to attack at point blank range in order to breach its hull. It also had good firepower and traction, but was unfortunately slow and difficult to steer. Hobby Master's 1:72 scale KV heavy tank is constructed using an intelligent mix of diecast metal and plastic, which provides for a heavy feel with maximum scale replication. The top portion of the hull is made from plastic and the bottom from diecast metal. Fine details include rivets and bolts, separately-applied equipment such as boxes and tow cables, a 360 degree rotating turret, road wheels and torsion bar suspension. The series includes the KV1 variant—featuring a diecast metal turret with separately applied plastic side armor plates—and the KV2, featuring an unusually tall turret constructed from diecast metal with a pivoting metal cannon.
