The 2nd Infantry Division, British Army was first formed in 1809 and took the Crossed Keys of St. Patrick as their insignia. The 2nd ID was part of the British Expeditionary Force sent to France in 1939 and evacuated at Dunkirk in 1940. In 1941 the 2nd was re-equipped and sent to fight against Japan and moved to India and fought in the battle of Kohima that has been called a miniature Stalingrad. The division continued to fight in Burma before being withdrawn to India to re-equip when the war ended.
