Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) operated from 1949 - 1988. In late 1959 PSA started to take delivery of the Lockheed Electra L-188 to replace their aging DC-4's. The Electra drastically cut travel times and was exactly what PSA needed to compete with United and Western. As the business grew PSA could afford more L-188's and their 5th and 6th were aircraft that Lockheed had repossessed and overhauled. N6130A operated with PSA from October 29, 1975 to March 19, 1979. The aircraft was originally built as L-188A MSN 1121 and delivered to American on February 12, 1960 and flew with them as "Flagship San Francisco" until April 23, 1969 when it was sold to McCulloch who operated it until October 29, 1975. This is when PSA acquired the aircraft and named it "Toto" and gave it number 72. In 1979 the airline sold N6130A to Evergreen International. PSA agreed to merge with USAir, which was completed in 1987. PSA's last flight took place on April 8, 1988.
Designed and built by Lockheed for American Airlines, the L-188 Electra first flew on December 6, 1957. The L-188 was the first turboprop airliner produced in the United States, with standard seating for 66 to 88 passengers. Powered by four Allison 501D-13 turboprops, the aircraft performed nearly as well as contemporary turbojets but cost less to operate. Unfortunately, two fatal accidents quickly eroded faith in the type and led to early cancelation of production.
