Douglas DC-6B MSN 44891 was built in 1956 and delivered to Canadian Pacific Airlines that year. The aircraft was registered as CF-CZE named "Empress of Toronto" with a fleet number 437. In 1960 the aircraft was converted to a DC-6F, and then in 1961 was sold to World Airways as N45502. Over the years 44891 had additional registrations, CC-CEV, CC-PJG and in 1982 N821TA with Trans-Air-Link who finally scrapped the aircraft in 2003 in Melbourne, Florida. Before scrapping the DC-6 the airline donated the nose and front end of the fuselage to the Houston based 1940 Air Terminal Museum and the remaining parts were buried.
Designed to meet a USAAF requirement for a larger-capacity transport than the C-54 (DC-4), the Douglas DC-6 was first flown on June 29th, 1946. © Copyright 2003-2024 The Flying Mule, Inc.
