USS Mobile Bay (CG-53) is a Ticonderoga class guided-missile cruiser that is named after the Battle of Mobile Bay during the American Civil War in 1864. Her keel was laid in June 1984 and launched in August 1985 and after sea-trials Mobile Bay was commissioned on February 21, 1987. Initially her homeport was Mayport, Florida but in June 1990 relocated to Yokosuka, Japan with deployment to support Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. While there the ship launched 22 Tomahawk missiles and help destroy thirty eight Iraqi naval vessels.
