Precision Model Art Display Armor P0501
Horton Ho 229 Display Model
Luftwaffe, Germany, 1945

The Horten H.IX, RLM designation Ho 229 (or Gotha Go 229 for extensive re-design work done by Gotha to prepare the aircraft for mass production) was a German prototype fighter/bomber initially designed by Reimar and Walter Horten to be built by Gothaer Waggonfabrik late in World War II. It was the first flying wing to be powered by jet engines.

The design was a response to Hermann Goering's call for light bomber designs capable of meeting the "3 x 1000" requirement; namely to carry 1,000 kilograms (2,200 lb) of bombs a distance of 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) with a speed of 1,000 kilometres per hour (620 mph). Only jets could provide the speed, but these were extremely fuel-hungry, so considerable effort had to be made to meet the range requirement. Based on a flying wing, the Ho 229 lacked all extraneous control surfaces to lower drag. It was the only design to come even close to the requirements, and received Goering's approval.

Please note: An optional display stand is available separately if you wish to display this model "in-flight".

Designed as a jet-powered flying wing fighter/bomber, the Ho 229 first flew on March 1st, 1944.

Precision Model Art's intricately detailed Ho 229 has a diecast metal lower wing/fuselage with plastic used for the upper wing surfaces and all detailing. The entire upper fuselage panel is removeable, revealing a finely detailed cockpit interior and a pair of Jumo 004 turbojet engines. The model arrives ready to display in flying configuration although no display stand is provided. A delicate set of plastic landing gear and gear doors is included, however installation requires a very steady hand, a sharp eye and a whole lot of patience! The fit of these accessories is not ideal and may require the application of a little glue to keep everything securely in place.
